Computers & music making

I was going to call this page “computer music” but there’s a crucial difference. If a person is looking for computer music (whatever that is…) to listen to, then he might enter a search for “computer music” (or perhaps more commonly referred to as “electronic music”?)  But if a musician/composer/programmer is looking for information on creating music using computers, what should he (or she) search on?

Some of the subtopics I want to explore here are:

  • my heroes of EM (Stockhausen, Xenakis, Eno, etc.)
  • software for EM
  • some of my fondest musical toys and tools, from the Roland Sound Canvas to the “ChucK” software system
  • business vs. art in music and other creative fields
  • I guess some technical issues too. I’ve added a page about overclocking since I’m going to try to do that with my music computer.

and anything else that might come to mind.

Well, here are some things that came to mind:

Wonderful site to begin with (waveformless) but this link to a BBC documentary on synths is highly tasty. Watch it before it disappears. And from his page, he has a link to another interesting site

http://www.alternative-electronics.com/home

which is set up for gear nuts and fetishists (like myself) to see what gear our favorite and/or obscure performers and acts are using.
